A Clear Picture for Every Age
Your life is always changing, and your vision can change right along with it. A routine eye exam is one of the best ways to keep your eyesight sharp and your eyes healthy. During your visit, our eye care professionals will look for any early signs of eye conditions. We can check your current eyeglasses prescription to ensure you’re getting the clearest view.
Vision Care for Our Youngest Patients
A child’s world is a visual one, used for learning, playing and connecting. That’s why caring for your little one’s eyes from an early age is so important. Poor vision can sometimes be mistaken for a learning difficulty in school, so a thorough eye exam is a great step toward their success.
We create a fun, relaxed atmosphere for kids 8 and up so they feel at ease during their visit. We check for common childhood vision issues, and if your child needs glasses, we help you find affordable frames they will love to wear!
Senior Eye Care for a Bright Future
As we age, our eyes naturally go through changes. These changes don’t have to lead to visual impairment. With consistent care, you can maintain healthy vision for years to come. It’s common to see changes in your ability to focus up close or to notice an increased sensitivity to glare.
Sadler Health Center helps you manage age-related conditions like cataracts, glaucoma and macular degeneration. We also keep a close watch on how general health conditions, like diabetes, can impact your eye health. Find solutions like updated prescriptions and learn about lifestyle adjustments so you can continue living a full and independent life.
Urgent Care When You Need It Most
Eye problems can sometimes happen unexpectedly. A sudden change in vision, an injury or a painful infection can be alarming. When you’re faced with an eye emergency, you can count on us to provide compassionate care.
Please seek immediate attention if you experience symptoms such as sudden flashes of light, a new floater in your vision, eye pain, or an injury to your eye or cornea. Getting quick care can make a huge difference in protecting your sight for the long term.
Affordable Care with Sliding Fee Discounts
We understand financial considerations can impact access to health care. We offer sliding fee discounts on eye exams based on household size and income. This ensures that everyone in our community can access the quality vision care they need. We also accept most vision insurance plans.
Preventive & Lifestyle Eye Health
Tips to Protect Your Eyes from Strain
- The 20-20-20-20 Rule: Every 20 minutes you spend looking at a screen, take a 20-second break to look at something 20 feet away and blink 20 times as you are looking away from the computer. This little trick gives your eyes a much-needed rest.
- Adjust Your Lighting: Make sure your room is comfortably lit to reduce glare on your screen. A soft lamp is often better than harsh overhead lighting.
- Stay Hydrated: Drinking plenty of water helps your eyes produce tears, which keeps them from feeling dry and gritty, especially with long hours of focus.
Nutrition Guidance for Vision
What you eat can have a big impact on your eye health. Think of it as nourishment from the inside out. Foods rich in vitamins C and E, zinc, lutein and omega-3 fatty acids are your eyes’ best friends. Try adding leafy greens like spinach, oily fish like salmon and citrus fruits to your meals. These nutrients can help guard against age-related vision problems.
Seasonal Eye Health Tips
- Sunny Days: A good pair of sunglasses is more than a fashion accessory. Look for ones that block 100% of UVA and UVB rays to protect your eyes from sun damage.
- Allergy Season: Pollen can make eyes itchy and watery. Try to avoid rubbing them. Cool compresses can offer relief, and over-the-counter eye drops can help wash out allergens.
- Dry Winter Air: Heaters in the winter can dry out the air and your eyes. Using a humidifier in your home can add moisture back into the air and provide comfort.
Patient Resources and Support
FAQs
What exactly is astigmatism?
Think of a perfectly round eye like a basketball. An eye with astigmatism is shaped a bit more like a football. This irregular shape changes how light focuses on the back of your eye, which can make your vision blurry at all distances. It’s very common and can be corrected with glasses (and in some cases, contact lenses).
How often should I get an eye exam?
For most adults, an eye exam every one to two years is a good guideline. If you have a health condition like diabetes, wear contact lenses or have a family history of eye disease, your eye care professional might recommend more frequent visits. For children, regular checkups are key to healthy development.
What does a visual acuity test measure?
Visual acuity is the technical term for the sharpness of your vision. When you read letters from the eye chart across the room, we are measuring your ability to see details at a distance. It’s one part of a comprehensive exam that helps us determine your need for corrective lenses.
How to Prepare for Your Eye Exam
What to Bring:
- A list of any medications you are currently taking.
- Your current glasses (and contact lenses if you wear them).
- Your insurance card and a photo ID.
- A pair of sunglasses for the ride home, as your eyes might be sensitive to light after the exam.
What to Expect:
The appointment usually involves a few different parts. You’ll talk with our team about your health history and any vision issues you’ve noticed. We’ll perform a few tests, including reading an eye chart and looking through a series of lenses to find your best vision. We may also use special eye drops to widen your pupils, which lets us get a good look at the health of the inside of your eye.
Care Instructions for Glasses
Caring for Your Glasses:
- Always rinse your glasses with water before wiping them to avoid scratching the lenses with dust particles.
- Use a microfiber cloth and a gentle lens-cleaning solution. Avoid using paper towels or the corner of your shirt, which can cause tiny scratches over time.
- When you’re not wearing them, keep your glasses in a hard case to protect them.
Note: While we can provide guidance for patients who already wear contact lenses, we do not currently offer contact lens exams or fittings at this location.
